Mubarak's Journey: From Shyness to Strength

Mubarak, a 12-year-old boy from an underprivileged Muslim family in Delhi, studies at MCD School in Prashant Vihar. At school, he is quiet, hesitant to interact with classmates, and often reluctant to share his thoughts in group activities. He struggles with academics and frequently faces criticism from teachers.

Everything begins to change when Mubarak joins Shourya Life Skills Foundation’s Life Skills through Sports and Arts program. His passion for football draws him to the sessions, where he discovers a safe and supportive environment. For the first time, he feels encouraged to express himself and learns the values of discipline, teamwork, and confidence.

Recognizing his determination, the foundation gives him the chance to represent them as an ambassador at a national youth football event in Pune. This life-changing experience not only boosts his self-belief but also strengthens his dream of one day serving the nation by joining the Indian Army.

“Seeing Mubarak travel outside of Delhi for the first time fills me with pride. Despite his busy routine, he remains deeply connected to our family,” says Lubna, Mubarak’s mother, with a smile.

With guidance from dedicated mentors like Mansi Sharma and encouragement from his peers, Mubarak now balances his schooling with daily football practice. He participates in local tournaments, motivates younger children in his community, and inspires them with his discipline and positive outlook.

“I want to share the transformative power of football and life skills with other children like me,” says Mubarak. “Sports teach discipline, courage, and resilience—the same values that will help me achieve my dream of joining the Indian Army and serving my country.”

Mubarak’s journey shows how the right guidance, supportive mentors, and the power of sports and arts can transform a shy, struggling child into a confident, determined young leader ready to fight for his dreams.
